Tallboy.

Tallboy.

This is Tallboy, one of our neighbor's cats. He got ran over last night, and it's seriously depressing. I came home from school today and Kory was talking to our neighbor, she was in the middle of digging a hole to bury him in and was crying her eyes out. I cried to, I couldn't help it. Tallboy was one of the best cats ever, he had so much personality. =( I wish there was something I could do to comfort our neighbor.

Digital Update.

Here are some photos from this past week, taken at three places: West Branch, Towner's Woods, and Jennings' Woods. On Saturday I went to help Dr. Foote and some students doing an Individual Investigation for him. He's trying to determine infestation rates of particular plant, so we sliced open 100 plants and they were all infested! Yikes! It was fun, it was nice to finally meet Dr. Foote after hearing Jess talk about him for so long. I love going out on trips with the retired professors, they're so incredibly smart and so excited to teach you things. Hopefully we'll be helping Dr. Foote do some research this summer. Jess and I might even be able to publish our own paper if we collect enough data!

Busy Week!

  • Japanese test on Wednesday.
  • Crow census report due on Thursday.
  • Bird watching lab and salamander hunting lab on Thursday.
  • MFAT (Major Field Achievement Test) on Thursday. Some dumb test I have to take to graduate. We have three hours to do it, and no one is allowed to leave until everyone else is done. Lame!
  • Pick up Kory's friend Ron in Lorain on Friday night and bring him back to stay with us for the weekend.
  • Have the kids from my biogeography group over some time this weekend so we can work on our presentation about the Monotremes.
  • Meet with the kids in my Japanese group so we can write a ten minute skit that we have to perform next Wednesday.
  • Go to Towner's Woods with Jess and Dr. Foote to catch bugs, probably Saturday morning.

Help!

Behold, The Fairy Shrimp.

Fairy Shrimp.

This is a fairy shrimp (Eubranchipus sp.). Fairy shrimp live in vernal pools. I found this on Saturday at Jennings', and I think it's probably the coolest thing I've ever found. This picture does not do it justice, it's really beautiful. This one is a female, you can tell by all the eggs she has on her abdomen. You wouldn't believe how excited I was when I saw this. I had no idea what it was, but I scooped it up with my bug net and made Kory hold it so I could get a clear picture. I showed it to Ferenc today and he said he had never seen one at Jennings' before. Yay!

Here is a photo to show how big she actually is, and here is a photo of her where I scooped her up.

Okaasan (Mother!)

I need you to call me so I can save your number in my new phone. My old phone won't charge anymore, so I can't get to my contact list.

At Least The Birds Like My Highlights.

Wally and Winky.

Here is a photo of Wally finally content with his styling job.

And here is a photo of one of the many aerial attacks from Marzipan. She's such a snot.

The Big D.

Sunni is sick. The other night she pooped ten times. TEN TIMES! In the living room! And it wasn't nice healthy dog poop, it was gross disgusting diarrhea. By the time I got back from school the next day, Kory said he had been letting her outside every twenty minutes and she was pooping every time! Every twenty minutes! When it was my shift to let her outside every twenty minutes I realized that she was pooping twice every time she went out! In case you didn't know, that's a lot of poop!

The vet thought she had Giardia, but she tested negative for it so he said he doesn't know what's wrong with her. He put her on Metronidazole, which is the same medicine that made Brooke really sick. So far, so good though. She is definitely not going to the bathroom every twenty minutes anymore, but she still has diarrhea. But she's still her normal happy self and she's eating well. In fact, we're feeding her a bland diet, which means boiled ground beef and rice! Yuck! Christine knows we're vegan, so she was nice enough to boil up some hamburger for us!

What a mess.

I came downstairs to Atrayou chewing on my phone the other morning. Kory had left it on the couch, which is a huge no-no with three hounds around. It didn't really look too bad, I could still call out on it and everything. I was downstairs getting ready for school, and Kory called me from upstairs. He kept saying, "Hello? Hello? Amy?" I thought he was joking, pretending he couldn't hear me because my phone was chewed up and broken (jerk!), so I hung up on him and left for school. I came home later and tried to call Christine and I realized that although I could call out, people couldn't hear me! Gah! So my phone is broken and it's terrible not having a phone. I'm using Kory's, which is this huge old piece of junk that he always gets made fun of for. Hopefully Sunday I will be getting a new one.

Digital Update.

We went out to Jennings' Woods today for my vertebrate zoology lab. We were supposed to go last week, but it was too cold out. It was really one of the most fun lab field trips I've been on. We went out to catch fish with sein nets, and we really caught a lot. And I managed to not fall into the water, although I came close a couple of times. Marilyn and Megan told me they would rescue me if I fell in, but only after they laughed and took pictures of me. So here are some photos from today.

There are also more over on Flickr.

Various Things.

  • Kory tried to use the word "unfrozened" during a Scrabble game the other day.
  • I saw two toilets out on the curb (at different houses) while I was driving this morning. One of the toilets was next to a box that said "Toilet-In-A-Box". I would never buy a toilet that's called "Toilet-In-A-Box". This also reminds me that there's a house by the school that has a purple toilet chained to a tree in its front yard.
  • I got highlights in my hair on Saturday. I am now officially trendy.
  • I've been bird watching with some binoculars I borrowed from the school. Birds that visit my backyard: blue jays, robins, cardinals, chickadees, downy woodpeckers, brown creepers, dark eyed juncos, and tufted titmice.
  • There are a million animals in my backyard including birds, stray cats, five million squirrels, and a very cute groundhog who should be having a baby soon. The only thing the hounds do outside is look for animals to eat, so every time I let them out I have to go outside first and scare away all the critters. I fear for their lives, especially Ms. Groundhog since she's very sloooow.
  • I get my computer back tonight!
  • I love this boy!

My Computer Is Dead.

I'm at the school right now while Kory is doing some research. My dad thinks there's something wrong with the hard drive, so I dropped it off with him today so he can fix it. Hopefully I won't lose all my files. That's years of photos, design, reports...pretty much a lot of things that are really important to me.

This is a bad time to not have my computer. I have a couple projects that I already started on it (and one is a group project!), Kory has a report due on Wednesday, etc.

Yuck yuck yuck.
