i ventured to the movie house and saw the prestige. it was entertaining but a bit to explanative towards the end. leave a bit for the mystery of things. halloween has come and gone and now the next event will be my birthday. what a day, i will be turning four hundred and i am still in college but i think i have finally found my passion, paper, and most enjoyable paper engineering, i.e. pop up books and the like. my next few projects will be along these lines. as i right this my mind is twirling with the possibilities, pop ups can be the perfect combination of the four major art disciplines, sculpture, painting, print making, drawing. it is a marriage of math and art all rapped up into an ephemeral vessel of paper. it is childish and whimsical in its history yet has the possibilities of great sophistication. i hear that kara walker does some pop ups and I have a dvd that she is on showing them but i have not delved that far into its content. (don’t worry all the dramatics will pass as soon as i have lost interest).
on a different note I am in a regional show consisting of ua, cia and ksu painting students and for the opening we had amy yoes give an artist lecture, the odd thing is amy is not asian. i say this because for some reason everybody thought she was. i think it is because of her flyer/card, there was a women looking at one of her works and she seemed to be asian. i have not decided whether or not this is racist.
on a different note from the different note, i am going to a lecture presented by one of the curators for the dana schutz show at moca. i can not wait to see how convoluted, pretentious and out and out masturbatory it will be.
